Mandibular Angle Resection

Another male feature in the bony anatomy is the prominence of the mandibular angle. This gives a fairly rough aspect to the lower third of the face. An attractive female face should have a smooth contour in this area. To achieve this result we can perform a resection of the angle of the lower jaw to produce a round transition at the level of the lower neck.

Planning the ressection
Mandibular Angle ResectionThe procedure is done through an incision inside the mouth. And the flaring at the corner of the jaw is reduced and recontoured as much as possible. Sometimes a few Botox treatments (usually 2 or 3) into the masseter muscle lying right on top of the bone can be added if this muscle is too thick and too strong. Reducing the bulk of the muscle is not advisable since it can lead to prolonged swelling and stiffness of the jaw.

Mandibular Angle ResectionBotox injections have been proven to be very effective in the long term volumetric reduction of the bulk of the masseter muscle.

A soft diet and oral hygiene is important during the healing period. This procedure can also be combined with other FFS procedures.
